Aero-K® - Fast, Safe and Reliable Fire Suppression Systems that extinguish a fire in seconds and protect electronic equipment, media, and personnel.

Aero-K® aerosol generators, manufactured in an American ISO 9002 facility, are being widely adopted in the Information Technology and Telecommunications Industries due to their obvious benefits:
Aero-K®'s low-cost yet highly effective generators snuff out fires quickly and safely (click below to view video):

Aero-K® Doesn't Harm Electronics or Corrode Materials

Aero-K® uses a fire-suppressing aerosol of extremely small particles of potassium compounds suspended in carrier gasses.

Aero-K® aerosol is non-corrosive -- it won't damage sensitive electronics, and won't corrode steel, plastic, nickel, brass, zinc, copper, aluminum, magnesium, or commonly used composites. Some competing fire-suppression products do corrode materials, such as steel and aluminum. These competing products have been rated as moderately corrosive, while Aero-K® is rated as non-corrosive.

Aero-K®'s fire-suppressant aerosol won't harm electronics or electronic media such as tape and disks, and, when properly vented after dispersal, leaves very little residue.
Aero-K® Is Safe for Facility Personnel

Aero-K® uses a non-toxic aerosol that is not hazardous to the health of personnel.

Aero-K® is so safe, in fact, that it’s approved for ground, air cargo, and passenger air transportation without special packaging.

However, the fire-suppression aerosol will reduce visibility. Because of this, the system is placed in manual only mode if personnel are present in the protected area. A programmable delay (normally set to 30 seconds) between detection of a fire and agent dispersal, provides an additional margin of safety to allow staff to leave the area in the event of a fire. In addition, manual overrides provide total control to facility staff.
Aero-K® is Ecologically Friendly
Aero-K® aerosol contains no agents that can harm the ozone layer or, unlike some fire-suppression systems, contribute to global warming.

Aero-K® Cleans up Easily
Aero-K®'s aerosol is so fine -- particles less than 2 microns in diameter -- that in most cases after dispersal, clean-up consists of merely venting the protected area.
Aero-K® leaves very little residue; simply vent the room as soon as possible after the fire has been extinguished (click below to view video):

Aero-K® Is Compact

Aero-K® aerosol generators, placed around the facility, are small enough to mount on the walls at ceiling height. You'll lose no floor space with an Aero-K® system.

Aero-K® aerosol generators require as little as 10% of the agent required by some other fire-suppression systems. The chart to the right shows the number of grams of suppression agent required for every 35.5 cubic feet of coverage, for four different systems. As you can see, Aero-K® is a fraction of the others!

Aero-K® Costs Less to Install

Aero-K® is much less expensive to install than most other systems.

Aero-K® packs a huge punch from small "generators" (some weigh as little as 2 lbs.) that can be mounted on walls near the ceiling, placed around the area to be covered. The generators are electrically connected to a small control panel. Aero-K® generators are not pressurized until activated by detection of a fire, when the patented compound within the generator produces and disperses an ultra-fine aerosol fire suppressant that quickly and effectively extinguishes the fire.
Aero-K® Costs Less to Maintain

An Aero-K® system consists of a control panel, detection, and a series of aerosol generators. Inspection consists of visually inspecting each generator and checking continuity via the control panel. Aero-K® generators are warranted for 18 months from date of installation and have a shelf life of over ten years. This fire suppression system can be easily removed and reconfigured for re-installation or upgrade in the event of facility re-location or expansion.
How Does Aero-K® Work?

Aero-K® generators are distributed around a room. When fire is detected by the system’s smoke detectors, the generators rapidly disperse a non-toxic, non-corrosive aerosol, which extinguishes the fire within seconds. The control panel has a battery back-up in case of power failure, and automatically shuts down the HVAC and computer systems before the generators disperse the suppressant.
Aero-K® Provides Staff with Flexibility
Facility staff can manage the system in several ways. The control panel, placed outside the coverage area, allows staff to:
  • Override the 30 second delay. Once a supervisor is sure everyone has left the fire area, he or she may begin dispersal immediately, before the 30 second delay has finished.
  • Abort dispersal. Staff may also stop agent dispersal, if they believe it’s a false alarm.
  • Lock out automatic initiation. Staff can disable the dispersal system so that, although the alarms are still active, automatic dispersal will not take place (for instance, if the room is occupied). Dispersal can always be triggered manually, if required.

Aero-K® Avoids False Alarms
All Aero-K® installations have multiple smoke detectors. The Aero-K® system will not disperse the aerosol agent unless it registers smoke through two or more detectors, limiting the chance of accidental discharge.
Aero-K® Complements Sprinkler Systems
Aero-K® systems are often used to complement sprinkler systems. In cases where a facility is required to have sprinklers, an Aero-K® installation can ensure that the sprinklers are not used!

Sprinklers in a computer or telecommunications facility can do as much harm as fire--your expensive electronic hardware is ruined, and your data lost, along with the magnetic media.

Sprinklers are set off by heat; Aero-K®, however, uses fast acting smoke sensors, which, in most cases, will detect a fire and trigger the generators to extinguish it long before the sprinkler sensors become hot enough to trigger the water flow.
Aero-K® is More Effective than Halon

Halon became state-of-the-art fire suppression because it could rapidly extinguish a fire with low levels of agent. When halon was banned, for ecological reasons, nearly all of the replacements proved significantly less effective than halon.

Aero-K®, however, is much more effective at extinguishing fire than halon; fires can be suppressed with much less agent than it would take for a halon system ... and in some cases just one tenth of the agent it would take other halon-type replacements.
